Moar Robotnik!!!

The scariest thing on television in 1993

After several years of making Sonic SatAM fan content one thing has become clear to me-- Sonic SatAM may not be the most well-liked Sonic IP, but I think that the Sonic SatAM version of Robotnik is pretty broadly loved by fans across the spectrum of Sonic fandoms.

This is reflected most clearly in media view counts. For instance, my SoundCloud for the RPG soundtrack has a fair amount of views on certain songs, especially those that have been posted since the beginning (2019), but none rival the view count on the Robotnik Theme.(a whopping 900+ views). Straying from my own content, take a look at my friend F0xShadow's youtube channel which boasts incredible orchestral arrangements of Sonic SatAM music. His number 1 most popular video is the one featuring his arrangement of Robotnik's Theme.

The swagger of Robotnik in Sonic SatAM seems to  stand the test of time for many Sonic fans, which is why my decision to background Robotnik in most of my fan game episodes was probably not the wisest choice. That, in part, is why Robotnik plays a very large role in Episode 5: Past, Present & Future. I wanted to give Robotnik his due, really lean into everything that I personally love about his vibe, both in SatAM, and in early Archie (Sonic v Robotnik in issue 50 lives comfortably in my brain forever, rent free).

So please enjoy your Robotnik fanfare in this past years’ episode! I absolutely loved refining his dialogue, developing musical cues for him, designing his boss battle (spoilers), and doing some amature voice acting clips of him! The completed version of episode 5 will release Monday night at the latest.

What’s your favorite Robotnik moment? Is Sonic SatAM’s Robotnik your favorite portrayal of Robotnik?
